The facility would integrate three organizations-Renesas, Altium, and Part Analytics-while serving as both an internal innovation hub and external customer experience center.
The core challenge: design a space that enables uninterrupted, focused research while fostering cross-functional collaboration and seamless customer engagement.
Without intentional spatial design, the 1,20,000 sq. ft. facility risked operational fragmentation, post-acquisition silos, and innovation fatigue-ultimately compromising Renesas’ competitive position in advanced semiconductor development.

The design centers on a dual-purpose operating system that solves the fundamental tension between focus and collaboration-two elements that appear contradictory but are essential for innovation.
Protecting Deep Work While Enabling Engagement: A strategic dual-entry system separates the experience center from direct lab access. This isn’t merely functional-it signals organizational priority. Research shows that deep work in semiconductor engineering requires 4-6 hour uninterrupted focus blocks. By creating a firewall between customer engagement and labs, the design protects these critical windows. Simultaneously, the experience center enables Renesas to serve customers and candidates without sacrificing research momentum. The message is clear: innovation is valuable enough to protect.
Spatial Zoning for Cognitive Resilience: The upper 50% of the facility is dedicated to high-performance labs with acoustic, thermal, and electromagnetic controls-mirroring the precision environment semiconductor R&D demands. The lower 50% mirrors this principle through a performance/wellness split. Rather than segregating wellness as an afterthought, the design embeds cognitive recovery into daily workflow. Engineers alternate between high-intensity collaboration zones and rejuvenation spaces, preventing the innovation fatigue that degrades both creativity and decision-making quality. Neuroscience research shows sustained breakthrough thinking requires structured recovery cycles; this design makes recovery structural, not optional.
Serendipity by Design: Central circulation patterns are deliberately engineered to maximize spontaneous cross-functional encounters. Post-acquisition, Renesas, Altium, and Part Analytics operated as separate entities.
