The Challenge
As Birlasoft embarked on a new chapter under fresh leadership, the company set out to reimagine not just its operational strategy, but also its physical workplace. With 12,500+ employees spread globally, the organisation’s Navi Mumbai office presented a unique opportunity to lead this transformation from the ground up, literally.
Post-COVID, Birlasoft embraced a flexible, hybrid working model. However, their existing office was rarely fully occupied, and posed some clear challenges, team disconnect, diluted cultural cohesion, and underutilised valuable real estate.
To solve this, the leadership made a bold move: consolidate the operations into a single expansive floorplate. This strategic shift was not just about saving space, it was about bringing people together, encouraging cross-functional interactions, and creating a culture-forward workplace that resonates with the company's renewed identity.

turning the floorplate into an open, collaborative, and high-performance ecosystem
The Solution
Space Matrix's design approach was guided by one core objective, turning the floorplate into an open, collaborative, and high-performance ecosystem inspired by the site's striking duality. On one side, verdant hills with cascading waterfalls. On the other hand, expansive bay views. Instead of imposing a theme, the design honours and extends the natural surroundings, translating geography into spatial experience.
This idea materialised into a fluid design language: from the “hill side” to the “bay side,” the floor mimics a natural trail, organically guiding movement across diverse work settings and interaction zones. The central challenge, how to close the gap between user groups and foster one cohesive team, finds resolution in this circulation strategy, which draws all teams toward a unifying core: The Confluence.
Designing for Discovery, Belonging, and Engagement
The Confluence acts as a social and spatial pivot. Positioned at the intersection of both wings, it is a vibrant collaborative zone that anchors the office. Paired with dual pantry areas and outdoor terrace cafés, this heart of the workspace invites employees to connect informally, share ideas spontaneously, and enjoy panoramic views that reframe the workday.
From arrival to workspace, every detail strengthens the sense of belonging. The primary arrival zone removes the formality of a traditional reception and transforms into an inviting social forum, complete with stepped seating, flexible meeting areas, and a barista-style coffee point. Even executive dining spaces are reimagined to serve dual roles, easily transforming into town hall venues.
Distinct identities across the hill and bay wings give teams a visual and emotional anchor, while colour palettes, textures, and materiality are curated to reinforce calm, creativity, and cultural alignment. Open ceilings and seamless sightlines across work areas enhance spatial generosity and visual cohesion.

The Result
What started as a real estate optimisation move culminated in a complete cultural reset. By consolidating teams onto a single, highly experiential floorplate, Birlasoft not only solved the challenge of fragmentation, it elevated its workspace into a strategic business asset.
The new office supports flexibility, accelerates collaboration, and reflects the company’s ambition to grow as a powerhouse of innovative solutions. It brings employees back into the workplace not through mandates, but by offering an environment that inspires, engages, and belongs, firmly aligned with the brand’s vision for the future.
